Wine has been made here since Roman times and because of the unique and perfect climate provided below ground here, grapes from surrounding vineyards are harvested and brought to Canelli for pressing and fermentation. The internal temperature remains virtually constant at between 12˚C and 14˚C all year round, ideal for ageing and helping to develop the distinctive character and flavour of the wines.

Arugably Italian’s best wine region
Did you know that Piemonte had more DOCG’s (15 as of 2010) and DOC ( 45 and rising) than any other Italian region?
The prize-winning wines, such as Barbera, Barolo, Barbaresco, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Grignolino, Malvasia and Asti Spumante among others are all produced in the region.
Piemonte is made up of a large number of small scale family wineries, who focus on quality. We have had the pleasure of getting to know some of these local producers, and are happy to arrange tasting of their wines, either on local premises or by organising a special visit and tasting at the vineyard. We do this on request, and once we have an idea of what you would like to learn, or taste while you are here.
Novice or connoisseur, we are only too happy to assist you as you discover the wonderful, noble wines of this region
The Regions wines:
The main grape grown here is the distinguished Nebbiolo, behind 4 of Piemonte’s DOCG : Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero and Gattinara. Its name derives from the word nebbia, or fog, because of a velvety, whitish coating over it
